Feather Falls
Mar. 19, 2006. We decided to stay a little closer to home this weekend
and went hiking in Plumas Nat. Forest. The trailhead for this hike is only about
40 minutes from our new house. Feather Falls is the 6th tallest waterfall in the
U.S. We had great weather for the hike, sunny skies and temps around 60, round trip was about 8.5 miles. There
are two trails that loop to the falls with several creeks and streams along the
way. Also lots of very large Douglas Firs, Eucalyptus, and California Nutmeg
Trees. Feather Falls drops 640 feet from Fall river and then merges with the
Middle Fork of the Feather river. After making our way to the scenic view we
hiked over to the top of the falls and had lunch perched on the rocks right at
the overflow of the raging falls. I tried to get Tara to go for a swim right
there ;>) but she said the water was too cold.
