Monterey, March 2006

Day 1: We started out in Pacific Grove and went to the Butterfly Sanctuary where butterflies winter over before migrating to lay eggs. We then headed to "17 Mile Drive", a beautiful scenic coastal drive that passes by some world famous golf courses like Pebble Beach and Spanish Bay. After that we went to Garrapata State Park where we hiked down to the beach. We found an awesome little waterfall falling into the beach. Something really neat about it was the water just disappeared several feet into the beach. The water was seeping and being wicked into the sand. Then we found some Starfish and Sea Anemones hanging out on the rocks. Hiking back to the car we found a little brook, covered in Cala Lilies, bubbling into the ocean.

Day 2: We started off the morning with a quick trip to Asilomar State Park. Low tide was around 9:30am and we were there by 8:30am. We walked the beach a little and then headed for the tide pools. We found lots of life, Giant Kelp, Seaweed, Sea Anemones, snails, and Starfish. After that we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Tara had a blast watching the Sea Otters putting a show for us. We also saw lots of local sea life. Once finished with the aquarium we head out to Cannery Row, where we had lunch and did a little shopping.
